Bonding

What is bonding?

Bonding is used to whiten teeth, lengthen short or chipped teeth, or fill in gaps between teeth. Bonding also works well with the brownish or grayish-tinged teeth, which don't always respond to bleaching.

What is involved?

Bonding consists of applying a plastic resin to the front of the tooth and then removing the shine of the enamel using phosphoric acid. Next, more resin is applied and a light is used to harden the resin and smooth out the enamel. Once the bonding is complete, the tooth is polished.

How long does bonding last?

Dental bonding will keep your smile bright for five to ten years. At that time, the process may have to be repeated, as plaque and other stains may cause the tooth to lose its shine.
