Bridges

What are dental bridges?Bridges are used to replace missing teeth by "bridging" the gap between two remaining teeth. There are different types of bridges and we can help you choose the best option for you. What is involved? In a traditional bridge, also called a fixed bridge we create a pontiac—or false tooth—with a dental crown on either side. We fit the crowns over the remaining teeth to hold the false tooth in place. In a resin-bonded bridge we fuse a pontiac tooth to a metal band. The metal band, in turn, is bonded to the back of the remaining teeth with a white resin cement. A cantilever bridge is used when a patient only has teeth on one side of a gap. While traditional bridges have a crown on either side of the pontiac, cantilever bridges consist of two side-by-side crowns and only one is connected to the pontiac. To design a bridge, we first shrink, then reshape the teeth to make room for crowns. We make a mold of the teeth and the actual crowns and bridge are made in our laboratory. How long will a dental bridge last? With proper oral hygiene, bridges can last up to ten years. However, improper brushing and flossing, irregular dental visits, and excessive sugar and starch intake can all bring untimely damage to your bridge.I'd like to know more.
